The First Impressions

Indian Riffle Park, Kettering, Ohio

"If only one could see these forests in their primeval state."

Given the first impression, you may believe this was an impressionist painting. However, brush and canvas were swapped for digital pixels. A dizzying swirl of colors and textures take precedence.

Each microadjustment to the shutter speed and your hand motion affects the final result. A straight line up or down can cause very thin vertical or horizantal streaks of color, depending on your choice of movement. In this case, a slight wiggle with the right amount of shutter open will introduce these swirls, adding another dimension to the blur. The splotches of color add something to the whole composition.
