Daisy Fleabane (Erigeron philadelphicus)

Siebenthaler Fen, Beavercreek, Ohio

"There is something in the calm of nature that imparts quiet to the mind." - Jonathon Edwards

Late Autumn brought forth a beautiful evening light to this patch of daisies. The beautiful part of fens is that there is always something new to see every season and month of the year. While fleabane arrives during spring, this hardy plant species sticks around much later in the year.

The selective focus and dramatic, moody lighting is what sets this image apart for me. I could've used a much narrower aperture (thus bring more of the plant into focus) yet I wanted that mystical, dreamy look with a shallower depth of field. A dark, black background helps offset the whites of the fleabane. And this is an older image in my collection, yet I still come back to it time and time again.
