Yellow Daisies (Bellis perennis)

Sara Lee Arnovitz Nature Preserve, Xenia, Ohio

"The camera enables us to express what we have seen and felt in the worlds of nature and humanity." - Alfred Stieglitz

Daisies are some of my favorite flowers to see. In reality are typically thumbnail-sized, however I wanted to show more of the intricate details. Even the late morning light worked well to show the yellow to their best ability.

Macro photography is truly one of the best forms of expression in this medium. The simple act of making tiny objects magnified to fill the frame simply excites me. This was one of my first uses of an extension tube, an attactment that can simulate macro on nearly any lens you switch it on to. Rule of thirds made itself well for this subject to offcenter. 50mm was just right for this task, as the daisies were right on the edge of the wetland trail. f/8 drops out the background enough to display only the yellow flowers. Shooting handheld at 1/400 and ISO800 provided sufficient lighting for this even exposure.
