Fallen Autumn Leaves Abstraction

Russ Nature Reserve, Beavercreek, Ohio

"In every change, in every falling leaf there is some pain, some beauty. And that's the way new leaves grow.” - Amit Ray

June 5th is World Environment Day.

The environment in which we live shapes us to be who we are. An environment of busyness and city life may seem fine, however most will be tired and stressed by the polluted noise. A cabin out in the woods of Montana (something I'd love to have someday) will show you how to appreciate this planet. Just remember there are no do-overs, this is the only planet we've got currently. Treat it like it's the last and only.

Nature abstracts are a personal favorite of mine to photograph. After having included the reflections in a previous shot, I intended on this one to drop out any hints of water present. A polarizer filter was essential in making this all happen. Creating an "altered reality" look I so adore, the fallen leaves are floating in an abyss of black and nothingness. Printing this image shows those deep blacks that really help to contrast the warm tones of the leaves. In my opinion, this is an image that makes you look twice!
