“Insects all business all the time.” - David Foster Wallace
Compared to their larger dragon counterparts, damsels are so slender and unassuming that you may almost step on them in the middle of the trail. However they encompass a beauty all on their own. A fun experiment to test your macro shooting skills and patience. The best images to me are the ones where they stare back, revealing their bulging eyes. I could aptly title this image "Front of the Blue-Front."
I find this particular one in the nature preserve portion of the state park, however you may find these dancers perched on the ground, vegetation or streamside debris. Blue-Fronts belong to a small catalog of "pond damselflies" and make sure to look for their black line across the back. Grab a net and get out there!
