Tufted Titmouse (Baeolophus bicolor)
Spring Lakes Park, Bellbrook, Ohio
"I love all animals. I have a fascination with fish, birds, whales - sentient life - insects, reptiles." - Nicolas Cage
Doing the splits, this rather humorous looking image of a common songbird happened in an instant. Sometimes birds can be perched in awkward positions as this one was holding on to all around it. The posture is something I had never seen before out in the field, only in others photos. This is why I was so fortunate to capture the look before my eyes.
A classic bird portrait: the overcast, diffused lighting helped create soft colors throughout the frame. A pin sharp focus on the half of the face and eye facing the photographer. A clever composition and square crop helped put all focus on this subject. Not to mention the way this titmouse feather color 'pops' in contrast to the dark brown background. Easily one of my favorite bird photos yet.
