Red Admiral Butterfly (Vanessa atalanta)
James Ranch Garden, Xenia, Ohio
"Just as the bird sings or the butterfly soars, because it is his natural characteristic, so the artist works." - Alma Gluck
One of the more easier to see butterflies in the Buckeye State, anyone searching for these winged flyers will find them pretty often. During the warmer times of the year, these Red Admirals will be seen floating about gardens and patches of meadow or prairie.
A nice warm and sunny day meant that these butterflies were very active. Sunlight can help give them energy for their wing flaps, and this day they gravitated towards pollinating plants such as this red variety of coneflower. I simply waited in position for one to get into frame, and pressed the shutter.
