Orange Bluet (Enallagma signatum)
Caesar Creek State Park, Waynesville, Ohio
"Bugs are not going to inherit the earth. They own it now. So we might as well make peace with the landlord." - Thomas Eisner
A decent portion of my portfolio is happy accidents. This is image is one case study. Laying down flat on my chest in the middle of the boardwalk, I was simply trying to capture the damselfly as it stood there looking in my direction. This bluet had different plans, as it took flight mid shutter capture.
That shutter speed happened to be just right to keep the bulbous eyes in sharp focus while blurring the thin wings to convey motion. The simple tan wooded color of the boardwalk was a nice complementary color to the orange of this damsel. It is simply incredible seeing these tiny creatures up close and personal, if you only to develop a deeper apprecation for their beauty.
