Stokes' Aster (Stokesia laevis)
James Ranch Garden, Xenia, Ohio
"The fairest thing in nature, a flower, still has its roots in earth and manure." - D.H. Lawrence
This is a beautiful flower that comes to life mid-spring however has its' best display of color during the summer. Asters are a wide ranging groups of flowers, including this Stokes' (one of several common names) that are in the daisy family.
A popular flower for pollinators, I set up my DSLR on a tripod with an external flash mounted on the hot shoe. The sky was a clear blue and so the lighting could've potentially been problematic, however this perennial was well shaded by other taller plants and flowers.
