Acadian Flycatcher (Empidonax virescens)
Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve, Clifton, Ohio
"Plans to protect air and water, wilderness and wildlife are in fact plans to protect man." - Stewart Udall
Flycatchers are always difficult to identify! Typically the physical traits are so subtle in changes that they can only be discerned by song. Alas, I believe this is the more common Acadian, as Ohio has a few different residents.
This was the trip to Clifton Gorge where I was proven how good of a birding hotspot it is! Up until that point I had only known it for its esteemed waters and landscapes. Come Spring, and the warblers and neoteopical migrants make themselves known here high in the treetops. The specular lighting on this image captures the allure and mystery of these birds I had never seen so close before.
