Pinecone Tree / Snow II
Beavercreek, Ohio
"I believe in process. I believe in four seasons. I believe that winter's tough, but spring's coming. I believe that there's a growing season. And I think that you realize that in life, you grow. You get better." - Steve Southerland
This image is a case study on how shutter speed affects the final result. I used a slow enough shutter that produced this "falling snow'' blur effect to imply motion in the frame. To my surprise, the pine needles were motionless during the image capture.
Mounted on a tripod with a telephoto lens, this allowed me to slow the shutter and zoom in closer respectively. The snow-lined pine tree branches helped define the snow that was falling, assuring the viewer that this must be a winter scene.
