“Our task must be to free ourselves... by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and it's beauty.”
- Albert Einstein
When you're so accustomed to photographing Mallards and other domestic ducks, seeing this red-headed one was a nice change of pace. I laid out flat near the lake waters and observed the duck as it splashed about by itself, then proceeded to aim the camera and go to work.
There's quite a bit to say about the image, it stands out in my portfolio as the faster shutter speed of 1/800 of a second meant the water droplets kicked up were froze in motion. This obviously implies action and movement going on in the photo, as the duck thrusts itself along to wash its feathers. Typically you will want empty space where the bird or animal is looking towards or where it is moving, but the locomotive speed this duck was moving at I think works in this frame. A unique standout waterfowl shot from my time out in the field.
