Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly (Papilio glaucus)
Morris Reserve, Bellbrook, Ohio
"Butterflies are self-propelled flowers." - R.H. Heinlein
Macro photography opens up a world of possibilities to the your subject matter. A typical long telephoto at its maximum range of 400 or 600mm would get this butterfly in focus, however the result would be lackluster.
Macro imagery overrides a typical minimum focusing distancing, allowing the photographer to reach new intimacy with the subjects. This swallowtail allowed me to get real close after it landed on the coneflower in front of me.
