Woodland Phlox (Phlox divaricata)
Bill Yeck Park, Centerville, Ohio
"I believe in God, only I spell it Nature." - Frank Lloyd Wright
A common plant to grow in the woods as the name suggests. Phlox is a perennial that blooms in early spring as ground cover whereas tall phlox comes around mid to late summer. They may also be found in partially shaded meadow and along stream banks depending on the region.
Viewing and photographing wildflowers is always a highlight of the year for any nature photographer. At least a third to half of my year and seasons is finding these clusters of color, waiting for the right light. Watching pollinators like butterflies, day moths and hummingbirds interact with these in their day to day lives.
