Eastwood Lake Sunset
Eastwood Lake, Dayton, Ohio
"A rite of passage, a humbling experience, to walk peacefully."
My first visit to Eastwood Lake was quite a monumental experience in my career. The day started out as a rainy and cloudy day and so I waited around at home. Usually that doesn't last long as I was longing for going on another photo op and had this location planned to explore. That day began with me using my super telephoto lens mounted on my car door attempting to capture Ring-Billed Gulls in flight. Eventually I took my gear outside and moved around the 185 acre lake.
The pitter-patter of rain didn't stop, but I've surely been out in far worse conditions. I moved on to a flock of Canada Geese next and made my way to end of the pebble beachside on the southwest side near the smaller blue lake. A Green Heron and a Belted Kingfisher took my attention at that spot with no intentions of landscape photography or a decent sunset.
Getting close to the end of dusk, the sun started to break through below the clouds. Something about that light that you see here..stirred something deep within me. I set up my composition and as the light unfolded before my eyes, I settled on this rock with the stunning colors reflected in the water. Waiting it out by eating some energy bars and until the exact sunset time came. This was it, and it was gone before I knew it. I honestly came close to breaking tears. Even the light behind me was powerful. I was amazed the day evolved in such a surreal pattern of weather and mood. Such is life, right?
"Eventually we all find our way."
