Widow Skimmer (Libellula luctuosa)
Morris Reserve, Bellbrook, Ohio
"My camera is my weapon. When I shoot, my photos are the evidence.” - Unknown
Odonata is the order classification of damselflies and dragonflies. While most casual observers will recognize the broad winged dragons, their much smaller damsels cannot go unappreciated. All of them are essential to our environment.
This Widow Skimmer was perched on this sedge grass not too far off from me. I had all my gear dialed in already, as if it was a serendipitous moment. A tripod helped in steadying my micromovements and shaky hands from excitement. After spending a day out seeing these dragons and more, I finally nabbed a frame-filling shot of one.
