“I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night.” - Sarah Williams
This was truly an "aha!" moment. A late summer night had me situated on my back patio. Enjoying a little fire in my pit, the night sky was clear of any clouds. I decided to bring the camera out to mess around with night photography. Not too much came out it besides a handful of these shots. This backyard tree became my primary focus after it dawned on me: the firepit provided the right kind of light for me.
Settings included 15 seconds with f/2.8 at ISO 1600. This longer exposure allowed off the fire nearby to illuminate the tree and provide this ethereal glow. I even attempted a similar exposure with the artificial light of a headlamp yet found the results less than ideal. The warm embers of the fire created such an powerful appearance here that is hard to replicate otherwise.
