Monarch Butterfly (Danaus plexippus)
Morris Reserve, Bellbrook, Ohio
"The butterfly counts not months but moments, and has time enough." - Rabindranath Tagore
Perhaps the classic example of a butterfly, these winged beauties are commonly seen during the summertime. In this case, I was witnessing a rather uncommon 'super bloom' at a location and found many Lepidoptera as a result.
Pollinating on what appears to be Joe Pye Weed, the host plant for Monarchs to raise their young is typically milkweed. Despite that, this pink bloom made for a nice image in light of the orange butterfly and green foliage background.
